4. Kolata seems to underplay the role of food in making us fat. Paragraph 10 begins by questioning her avoidance of the topic: "Given the rise in obesity, however, is it really credible to put all the blame on our genes--and ignore he gazillion-dollar food industry?" Discuss whether obesity is genetically determined or whether it is caused by America's burgeoning (expanding) food industry.
Anybody dues about obesity is genetically determined. However, we also think that food is cheap and huge in United States. Those factors are really important and cause of obesity there. The food industries lobbies have many power in the policital, social and economical decisions. For all of that, these companies need people who eat everytime, every moment. This situation has derivated of higher percentage of obese people in the world, particularity in US.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the United States food industry's doing their job well. They can supply a huge of food with unbelievable cheap prices, for example, there are a lot of $1 hamburger in McDonald fastfood, you can earn average $5000/month but you just spent $500 for your food supply. In fact, these cheap foods have a lot of fatty matter, if you want a healthy food you have to pay at least $100/meal in restaurant. Therefore most American people who always blame their genes because of obesity, they also have to take notice of their food from their country.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, food industry is playing role in making people gain weight and suffer from obesity in the United States.Junk food is much cheaper than healthy food in USA. As a result, many people eat junk food rather than healthy food. Not only junk food lead to obesity in USA but also some people's genes lead them to obesity even if they don't eat junk food!. To sum up, both genes and industry food are reasons that cause obesity for some people in the United States.
